For the first time in more than a month, the ISIS-linked news agency, Amaq, released several photos of the ongoing clashes around the last terrorist group stronghold in the middle Euphrates River valley.
The photos, which were released on March 16, show ISIS fighters opening fire at US-backed forces from their last positions right between civilians’ tents.
ISIS is clearly trying to show that its remaining fighters are still holding onto their last positions north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. However, the available information indicate that more terrorists are surrendering to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) every day.
According to a report of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), more than 6,800 terrorists have surrendered to the SDF since last December.
Kurdish sources said the number of the remaining people in the last ISIS stronghold is only 5,000. The US-led coalition airstrikes and the heavy clashes on the ground will likely force these people to surrender in the upcoming few days.
