Pompeo blasts Germany for spending money on Nord Stream-2

The American administration does not like the prospect that Russia will occupy the European energy market thanks to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, so Washington “intends to help friends” and urges them to abandon the project, the head of the US State Department, Mike Pompeo, said at a CERAWeek conference in Houston.

“We don’t want our partners from Europe to become dependent on Russian gas thanks to the Nord Stream 2 project. We ourselves want nothing more than to depend on Venezuelan oil,” the Secretary of State said, adding that it is in this connection that the United States is expanding hydrocarbon production, which, moreover, is being exported.

It is worth noting that as an example to follow, the diplomat cited the most loyal European country of Poland, which agreed to purchase expensive American liquefied gas. At the same time, Pompeo hinted that Washington would like to see such loyalty from Germany, demanding from Berlin not to allow the completion of the project.

He lamented the fact that the German authorities are investing their money “not there.” “Germany is sending money to Russia, although a completely different side is engaged in its defense,” he says, once again urging “not to complete the construction of the gas pipeline.”
