Hundreds of Venezuelans paid their respects to former President Hugo Chavez at his mausoleum in western Caracas on the sixth anniversary of his death on Tuesday.
Catholic priest Omar Jose Gomez, who was among the visitors to the mausoleum at the Cuartel de la Montana, said “We’re here because a man, a human being, gave his life for the people, for the country and he believed strongly in God.”
“[Chavez’s] mission will continue, creating and maintaining independence despite the difficulties we’re experiencing,” Gomez added.
Hugo Chavez died in Caracas on March 5, 2013, after losing a two-year battle with cancer.
