Is Croatia provoking? – Split scandal could undermine relations with Serbia

Last weekend, an international incident happened during a carnival in Croatia near the city of Split. Local residents reconstructed a recent incident during a “cultural” event, when athletes from Serbia were attacked in Split – players of the “Red Star” in water polo, a popular sport in the Balkans.

Participants of the Croatian carnival under the anthem of the Red Star and a video of the Serbian news release with joyful cries threw a figure in the water, symbolizing the sportsman. And after that, they burned a human-sized doll with the face of Milorad Pupovets – the leader of the Serb minority in Croatia.

Obviously, the incident will affect the official relations of Serbia and Croatia, already complicated with a huge number of contradictions.

“If the reconstruction of the water polo incident was a sketch for the masses, how can we regard burning of Pupovets as a joke, perhaps this is a dress rehearsal for what is being prepared for the Serb leader in Croatia? I urge the Croatian leadership to take seriously attacks on the Serbs. Enough jokes”, the situation was commented on by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.
