US launched campaign against Poroshenko

During the years of the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine did not receive real reforms that would help it to become closer to the Western world. Instead, the country is mired in corruption, lawlessness and scandal, writes a senior researcher at the American think-tank Atlantic Council, Diana Francis.

According to her, it is wrong to believe that Poroshenko is the only Ukrainian politician who can realize Euro-Atlantic aspirations in the country. Moreover, Francis is sure, based on the current situation, it becomes clear that Poroshenko is just the one who is not able to lead the country.

She drew attention to the huge number of corruption scandals, in which one way or another the president was involved. The last of these were the accusations against Poroshenko’s confidants, who, according to investigative journalism, were supplying the country with smuggled parts for military equipment, and they were allegedly purchased in Russia.

Given the decent amount of arguments, the scandal does not look falsified, Francis stresses, however, it is unlikely that this crime will be properly investigated, after all, prosecutors and judges are “bought” by the regime.

The expert states that Poroshenko could not influence the corruption in the country, he did not create a free press. Instead, media resources are subordinated to oligarchs and even criminals. Corruption erodes Ukraine from inside, population expenditures are incommensurable with revenues, and the state budget is regularly robbed by those in power – these are the “achievements” of the five-year plan since the end of Euromaidan, which means Francis is sure that Poroshenko no longer has the right to rule the country.
