The Success Story Of Moldova Has Become A Success Story Of Plahotniuc

Moldova, once embarked on the path of European integration, was supposed to turn into an example for imitation, a success story related to democratic reforms and confident joining the western camp, but something went wrong writes German edition of “Der Spiegel”.

According to the author, over the past few years, democracy in Moldova has remained only on paper, and the only one who can talk about success is the notorious oligarch and leader of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Plahotniuc, who has subdued all power and spat on European values for his own benefit.

“Over the past ten years, Moldova has become a European center for money laundering, and the results of the parliamentary elections held on Sunday show how bad it is in a country with democracy,” the article says.

Referring to OSCE data, the author noted that, although the basic rules were observed, in Moldova there were falsifications and even bribery of voters. He also recalled that after the elections of 2014, the PDM had 19 seats in parliament, now the situation has changed, because many deputies were “bought” or subjected to blackmail.

The author calls Plakhotnyuk a “strong man,” but his strength is directed completely into an anti-democratic channel: “Plakhotnyuk has crushed under him politics, justice and security.”
