Corbyn’s deputy Tom Watson gives eyebrow-raising reply to if he’s ‘fit to be PM’

Jeremy Corbyn’s deputy has prompted surprise in a live radio interview as he stopped short of saying his boss is “fit to be Prime Minister”.

Tom Watson was asked the question this morning after branding Labour’s anti-Semitism row the “worst day of shame” in the party’s history.

Labour’s deputy leader has demanded action from Mr Corbyn to resolve complaints after eight MPs walked out last week – and sent him a dossier of 50 cases.

He also hit out after the MP Chris Williamson was initially kept in the party yesterday after saying Labour had been “too apologetic” for anti-Semitism – only to be suspended a few hours later for his “pattern of behaviour”.

Asked this morning if Jeremy Corbyn was “fit to be Prime Minister”, Mr Watson stuttered and replied he “could easily be” – but “we could do without the anti-Semitism”.
