The comments come as Washington seeks to push China out of Europe’s emerging 5G network market. The European Commission doesn’t seem to buy the allegations, though.
China’s cybersecurity law allows the Chinese government to force domestic tech companies to spy on Beijing’s behalf and therefore is a threat to the Western world, a senior US official said in an interview for Euractiv.
According to Euractiv, the legislation forces Chinese tech companies to hand over data to national security and law enforcement agencies should such a need arise during an investigation.
According to Pang, “[Zhengfei] said that if the Chinese government were to force Huawei to hand over data, then he would shut down the company.”
