Even despite the scandalous “Skripals case”, the UK understands the importance of establishing relations with Russia, and this process will become one of the priorities in the coming 2019.
The British ambassador to Moscow, Laurie Bristow, spoke about this on Tuesday, February 26, in an interview with Interfax.
According to him, both Moscow and London bear a serious responsibility to the world community, being permanent members of the UN Security Council and important political forces in matters of global security. With this in mind, economic and diplomatic cooperation between countries benefits both states and ordinary citizens. In this regard, he noted that last year, Britain issued 140,000 visas to Russians.
On the basis of short-term plans, London is counting on the stabilization of the partnership with Moscow, emphasizes Bristow. “We should at least try to improve relations. There are curious signs that the Russian side wants the same thing, but it’s too early to talk about some results, ”the diplomat said, adding that the settlement of relations between states is one of the priorities, and its implementation can be addressed in the coming months.
“I don’t want to go into details, but there are also signals from Moscow that they also [want to stabilize] this,” the head of the diplomatic mission said.
