Albania’s opposition burns mandates

Members of the Albanian opposition Democratic Party, pointedly left the Parliament, saying that all 43 MPs will burn their mandates.

A loud statement was made two days after the mass protest action in Tirana, which ended in a fight. Police detained 15 participants.

Albania has been in a political crisis for several months. The opposition accuses the authorities of corruption and criminal ties.

The Movement of Socialists, which has 16 deputies, expressed their support for the Democrats, although they have not yet announced their intention to leave parliament.
