Juan Guaido, the head of the Venezuelan opposition-led National Assembly, said on Tuesday that his government was recognized by as many as 60 countries worldwide.
“Those who usurped power in Miraflores [Venezuelan presidential palace] thought that they would defeat us, while 60 countries of the world recognize our democratic struggle today. And one country a day recognizes us,” Guaido said while addressing a rally in Caracas broadcast by TV Venezuela.
The political crisis erupted in Venezuela after Guaido proclaimed himself the country’s interim president in late January. The opposition leader was recognized by the United States and some other countries.
