Russian military police has provided security and escort to the first part of the mechanical transport column of the UN humanitarian convoy and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), which returned to Damascus from the Rukban refugee camp.
According to the correspondent, 55 unloaded trucks, two UN armored vehicles, two armored vehicles and an SACP ambulance drove out of 55-kilometer “security zone” surrounding the Al-Tanf military base.
“The Russian side has completed all the tasks of escorting a humanitarian convoy, ensuring complete security during the delivery of cargo to the security zone of Al-Tanf,” Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides in Syria Lieutenant General Sergei Solomatin told.
The convoy consisted of more than 160 trucks, ambulances, fuel vehicles and armored vehicles. A total of 1,080 tonnes of food, non-food items, medicines and basic necessities were delivered to refugees.
Head of the Russian National Defense Management Center Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev earlier announced the second humanitarian aid mission to the Rukban camp. According to him, the convoy’s movement was monitored in real-time mode.
