Italy: EU’s Tajani calls out Italian govt for uncertainty over Venezuela

The President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani criticised the ambiguous position of the Italian government regarding Venezuela during a meeting with the foreign press in Rome on Monday.

“Italy’s position is not clear, because one part of the government seems to favour to recognise [Juan] Guaido, another major part, the part of the Five Stars Movement is oriented not to take a position for Guaido. I do not understand why. This is not a matter of centre, right, left, this is matter of freedom, democracy and human rights. Human rights go beyond any interest that is economic, financial or related to resources. We cannot accept that there is a system that tramples on the dignity of men,” said Tajani.
