Bishkek, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday denied that the end of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty means a return to the Cold War.
I do not think that we are talking here about a development of the Cold War. It rather came to a new era, which is characterized by the course taken by the United States to destroy the entire disarmament control system, the diplomat noted.
It is very regrettable, said the Russian minister when speaking at a meeting at the Kirgiz-Russian Slavic University in this city.
Last Saturday, the Russian Foreign Minister regretted Washington’s decision to suspend its obligations with the INF, as a prelude to its definite withdrawal from the treaty, after which the Kremlin also announced the end of its commitments.
In light of Washington’s threats, we will be forced, of course, to take the necessary measures to guarantee our national security, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted in an official communiqué.
