Schools in Bangkok Close As Air Pollution Worsens

The Bangkok governor in Thailand today ordered the suspension of classes at 437 schools under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for the safety of students after 26 zones in the capital were declared air pollution control areas.

Aswin Kwanmuang said the suspension started at noon today and continue until Friday.

The decision followed the Pollution Control Department’s report of unsafe levels of PM2.5 – airborne particulates 2.5 microns or less in diameter – in 39 locales in and around the city, of which 23 were along main roads.
