Kosovan Serbs against Mitrovica’s ‘violent’ association

Serbs from the city of Mitrovica in the province of Kosovo and Metohija will not accept the violent integration of the city, said the leader of the Serbian List party Igor Simic.

“The northern part of Mitrovica is protection from the lawlessness of extremists,” said Simic.

The city of Kosovska Mitrovica is divided by a bridge across the Ibar River to the northern part, inhabited by Serbs, and the southern part – by Albanians. At the initiative of the administration of the southern part of Mitrovica, the authorities of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo” announced preparations for the unification of the city.

The bridge over the Ibar was previously and repeatedly the site of violent clashes between Albanians and Serbs. Currently, the situation at this facility is controlled by KFOR – a NATO contingent in Kosovo.
