The Greek Parliament narrowly passed a bill approving Macedonia’s name change to the Republic of North Macedonia to distinguish Greece’s northern neighbour from the Greek territory with the same name in Athens on Friday.
“153 voted for, 146 voted against,” announced Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Nikos Voutsis after the parliamentary vote, amidst the standing ovation of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and approving members of parliament.
Greece has now essentially resolved its long-running dispute with its northern neighbour, and the latter can finally move to join NATO and the EU.
