Deputy of the Greek opposition party “Independent Greeks” Tanasis Papachristopoulos believes that relations with Macedonia can bring only positive results to his country.
“Only those who step up for the creation of Great Albania and Great Turkey want to divide it. My opinion is that if there wasn’t Macedonia, we would have to invent it. It can only bring us good things,” said the deputy.
According to him, “in Europe everyone laughs” to the fact that Macedonia can pose a threat to Greece.
“This country is practically without an army and with 7% of Greek GDP,” explained Papachristopoulos.
Currently, a dispute has arisen between the opposition and the authorities in Greece over the ratification of the Presidential Agreement with Macedonia about the name of this country. According to the agreement, Macedonia will receive the name Northern Macedonia: this will be the way to resolve a long-term dispute with Greece over this toponym, which prevents Macedonia from joining the EU and NATO.
