UN chief Guterres: US-North Korea talks should ‘move on’

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres encouraged the US and North Korea to “move on” with negotiations and define “a clear roadmap” for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, at a press conference in New York on Friday.

“We encourage both countries to move on with negotiations. I think we need a clear road map, as I said, to clarify,” he told reporters.

Earlier, North Korean envoy Kim Yong-chol met US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington to discuss a second summit between the US leader and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The UN chief also set out his priorities for 2019, starting with the importance of global co-operation for global problems.

“No country can do it alone. We need today multilateralism more than ever,” Guterres said.
