American partners of Moldova are closely following preparations for the parliamentary elections to be held on February 24. According to them, the Republic has certain unfulfilled obligations regarding the electoral regulations.
The US State Department has issued a special press release on the election. “We remind the government of the need to implement the previous recommendations of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) for Moldova, which are still not implemented,” the document says.
The department emphasizes that the Moldovan authorities “must ensure the right of candidates to register for participation in elections and conduct their campaigns without fear of harassment or threats of physical violence.”
“We are here to observe and report. Our role is to compile reports based on facts and our findings. It is important for you to understand that we do not interfere in the process at any level,” said head of the OSCE Observation Mission, Matias Ershi.
It is planned that on January 23, some specialists will visit different regions of Moldova to study the implementation of legislation during the elections.
