The White House warned Republicans in Congress not to wait for the federal government to resume work immediately if Donald Trump introduced a state of emergency to get funds to build a fence on the border with Mexico.
Many Democrats and some Republicans hope that the introduction of the state of emergency and the use of the Pentagon’s budget to build the wall will lead to the end of the government’s suspension.
