Leading British yellow vest protestor ‘arrested’

A man believed to be James Goddard was detained outside St James’ Park underground station.

His supporters claimed he was about to hand himself in at Holborn police station at 12pm, according to BBC journalist Daniel Sandford.

Police confirmed a man in his late 30s was arrested at 11.42am today at the tube station, on suspicion of a public order offence.

He is currently in police custody and is being taken to a central London police station.

The Met Police said in a statement: “A man in his 30s has been arrested in central London on suspicion of public order offences committed in the #Westminster area on 7 Jan. He remains in custody.”

BBC journalist Sandford also tweeted:”Asked about the arrest of James Goddard Scotland Yard said as. In his 30s had been arrested outside St James Park tube station on suspicion of a “public order offence”. This is believed to relate to events earlier this week.

The Facebook account of campaigner James Goddard has disappeared as police investigate claims MPs, journalists and public officials were abused in Westminster.

Goddard claims Facebook have “silenced” him by removing his account.

The 29-year-old Brexiteer played a role in organising France-style “yellow vests” protests in London and has been filmed berating Remain MPs, including Tory MP Anna Soubry earlier this week outside Westminster.
