EU’s straining to cope with illegal Moldovan migrants

The population of Moldova is rapidly decreasing: apartments in Moldovan cities are becoming empty, entire settlements disappear from the map of the country. According to the UN, the population of the Republic of Moldova every 5 years will decrease by 100 thousand people, and by 2100 less than 2 million people will live in Moldova!

The problem is both natural loss and a huge migration pit. Unfortunately, all the words of the current government, that the European vector will help stabilize the situation in the country’s economy and return migrant workers home, while providing them with decent living conditions, turned out to be empty.

Solving the issue may be more radical. At least this is read in a recent statement by the European Commission. Very soon, problems may arise from the citizens of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia.

“In 2018, there was an increase in the number of unfounded asylum applications (in EU countries – ed.) By the citizens of Moldova and Georgia. Also high is the influx of irregular migrants from Ukraine. All three countries should immediately take … measures to address irregular migrants, ”said Dimitris Avramopoulos, European Commissioner for Migration, Citizenship and Internal Affairs.

It is worth noting that the notorious “visa-free”, which is considered almost the main achievement of the last 10 years (the political elites simply cannot boast with anything else), in fact, does not allow employment in EU countries, but only make short trips there. And it would all be very useful if the standard of living in the Republic of Moldova allowed shopping in Milan and dining in cozy restaurants in Montmartre. But for most of our fellow citizens, this is just an unattainable dream, and the catch phrase “to see Paris and die” has a completely different meaning.

Starting from 2020, in order to enter the EU countries, Moldovan citizens will have to log in to this system and pay 7 euros. The answer in which you will be informed about the permission or refusal of entry into the EU will come within 72 hours. The reasons for the refusal to notify you are not required. And this is nothing more than a return to the visa regime …

Migration flows from the Republic of Moldova are distributed approximately equally between the EU and the Russian Federation. True, the approaches in the Russian Federation to our fellow citizens are completely different. Recently, at the request of President Igor Dodon, Russia announced an amnesty for Moldovan guest workers who violated the labor legislation of the Russian Federation. More than 180 thousand people (from the black list) will now be able to freely enter Russia and return home without the threat of receiving a deport.

This measure, especially in tightening the migration policy in the EU, will allow to avoid major social upheavals and provide an opportunity for the existence of hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens and members of their families. Of course, this does not negate the fact that job creation is necessary in your home country. And I want to believe that the transition of the Moldovan political system from the ideology of populism to pragmatic development still takes place. And these improvements will be felt by ordinary people who will leave the country solely for the purpose of tourism, and no visas or “visa-free” will matter.
