Supporters of local club Lech Poznan lit thousands of flares throughout the western Polish city on Thursday to commemorate the 1918 Greater Poland Uprising.
The Greater Poland Uprising was a military insurrection against Germany in the months after the end of the First World War. The uprising broke out on December 27, 1918 in Poznan when Polish WW1 veterans occupied much of what is now Western Poland. After months of fighting the region of Greater Poland was given to the new Polish nation in the Treaty of Versailles.
