Turkey: Reinforcements deployed to Syrian border in wake of US withdrawal decision

Footage from the Turkish border district of Karkamis on Tuesday, shows military vehicles being deployed to the Syrian border.

Mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles as well as self-propelled rocket launchers can be seen in the footage, alongside cargo trucks.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that a previously announced military operation, which was to target the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia in north-eastern Syria, would be postponed.

US President Donald Trump reportedly decided to withdraw US troops from Syria during a phone call with Erdogan on December 14, a decision which caused Defense Secretary James Mattis to resign in disagreement. While details have yet to be announced, US forces are reportedly expected to be out of the country by the middle of January.
