Mr Macron called Mr Trump to warn him against the idea of withdrawing troops from Syria. He said: “An ally must be dependable”.
It is known that Macron doesn’t share views on the Syrian conflict with republicans. However, even they were disappointed by the plan of their president. The US special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat IS, Brett McGurk, also quit over the decision. By the way, Trump keeps describing it as the right one, like he’s done on his Twitter.
“….Going to be there for three months, and that was seven years ago – we never left. When I became President, ISIS was going wild. Now ISIS is largely defeated and other local countries, including Turkey, should be able to easily take care of whatever remains. We’re coming home!”
Pentagon said it was transitioning to the “next phase of the campaign”, without giving details.
