On the eve it became known that an eight-year-old boy who crossed the border with his father, an illegal migrant from Guatemala, died in hospital in Alamogordo. Guatemala’s government requires USA to investigate the circumstances leading to death of the child.
Previously, a seven-year-old girl from Guatemala, who was also in the US migrant center near the border with Mexico, died the same way. The UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of migrants, Felipe Gonzalez Morales, therefore called on the US authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of her death. He also demanded Washington to stop placing children in detention centers because of their migration status.
