Russia: Relations with EU going through ‘renaissance’ – EconDev Minister Oreshkin

Relations between Russia and the European Union are now experiencing a renaissance, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin said in an interview with RT in Moscow on Friday.

“You find a lot of areas in economic operations where we have really positive results,” Oreshkin explained, noting “that is why some time ago I have started to talk about the renaissance in the economic relations between Russia and the European Union.”

Discussing the hegemony of the US dollar concerning trade transactions with EU countries, Oreshkin noted that he favoured switching to the euro.

“Russia is not a dollar country, Europe is not made of dollar based countries. But for some reason we are trading energy resources in dollars.”

“So, I believe we should think about switching at least to euro as the currency which is more common both for Russians and for the Europeans,” he said.

The minister also said the US-China trade war has had “a big impact on the global economy” in 2018 in comparison to the previous year.
