While the pro-Western authorities of Moldova asserted about the European future, everything that is commonly called democratic values was methodically destroyed in the country.
The head of the Oral History Institute and the former Permanent Representative of Moldova to the UN and the Council of Europe Alexey Tulbure told this in a commentary to enews.md.
According to him, the mechanism of protection of human rights in the republic today is going not through the best times. The problem is that the authorities of the country are demonstratively adopting various plans and strategies in this direction, but they still remain plans and strategies.
“Now the most elementary rights are being violated in the country, which have become an integral part of society,” the expert stressed, noting that freedom of speech and even justice is among those.
He said that while Moldova was going to Europe, people were forbidden to create parties and public organizations, to hold meetings, free press was eradicated. All this is due to the fact that the authorities are simply not interested in consolidating these mechanisms.
“In a country with a strong human rights system, people in power find it difficult to use their position to rob, put pressure on the judicial system, law enforcement agencies,” he continued, adding that it’s foolish to call the Moldovan authorities “democratic” because they have completely different goals .
