Because of the incident in the Kerch Strait, which was provoked by Kiev, the West accuses Russia of obstructing free navigation in the Azov Sea region. Romanian military expert Valentin Vasilescu specifically for the “PolitRussia” gave an assessment of this situation.
The expert drew attention to the fact that for Russia the Krymsky Bridge is a strategically important infrastructure object. In connection with the complex political relations with Ukraine in Moscow, there is reason to fear any sabotage in the area.
“Russia’s fears look justified, since in the recent past, Ukraine was guilty of blocking the shipping channel,” said Valentin Vasilescu.
A military analyst recalled the incident, which they very much don’t like to remember in Kiev, it happened to a rhinestone after Ukraine became an independent state. We are talking about the incident that occurred on September 2, 1991, when the Ukrainian 117-meter vessel Rostok was flooded in the area of the Romanian Partizani. The ship was flooded in such a way that it blocked one of the three main branches of the Danube Delta – Sulinskoe Girlo.
Valentine Vasilescu recalled that the Sulina Canal is the only navigable of the three branches, through which the Danube flows into the Black Sea. Thus, Bucharest fell into the “trap” of Kiev on the Danube.
“Only on November 30, 2005, 15 years later, the Ukrainian ship was raised to the surface and freed the Sulinsky waterway. Having stopped traffic on this channel, Romania lost tens of millions of dollars, ”the military expert added.
It is still unknown whether the Ukrainian side deliberately flooded this vessel in the narrowest part of the aforementioned canal. According to Valentina Vasilescu, too many facts indicate that it was Kiev who specifically initiated this situation. The fact is that after the Sulinsky waterway was blocked, the ships had to use an alternative route that passes through the Ukrainian territorial waters.
Recall, on Sunday, November 25, the ships of the Ukrainian Navy (Berdyansk, Nikopol and Yana Kapu) entered the territorial waters of Russia, after which they were detained by the border guards of the FSB and the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.
