The upcoming parliamentary elections in Moldova do not bode well for the Democratic Party. The only salvation for it could be an exemplary filing of an application for EU membership, but here the plans were spoiled too.
The position of Romania, which will head the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019, will hinder the Moldovan oligarch and PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc. The Romanian ambassador in Chisinau, Daniel Ionita, assured that while Bucharest will chair the Council, Moldova will not be able to submit an application.
“First of all, even the aspirations of the Moldovan leadership in this direction are not visible. And it can arise at a very ambiguous moment. Surprises are not for us, preparation should precede such decisions, and I have not seen it before, so I’m not sure that this small period will be enough, ”the diplomat said, speaking on the 10TV channel.
Considering that at the beginning of the next year Moldova will face parliamentary elections, it is logical to assume that the entire resource will be directed specifically to this process, Ionita added.
Recall that the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova will be held on February 24, 2019. According to a sociological survey of the population, the position of the pro-Western authorities seriously shaken. Thus, the rating of Plakhotniuc is below 6%, PM Pavel Filip’s rating is at the same level.
