The response of the UN Security Council to the Sunday incident in the Kerch Strait may push Ukraine to further provocations in the Black and Azov Seas. Such a conclusion was made by the Deputy Representative of Russia to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky.
Earlier this week, the UN Security Council voted against the Russian agenda for the meeting on the incident in the Kerch Strait, and then decided to support the Ukrainian agenda.
“I am afraid that after the Western countries that have a specific influence on Ukraine showed their attitude to the incident, the Ukrainian side will feel much bolder and will continue to apply provocative actions of this kind towards Russia. During the meeting, the Ukrainian side did not hear reproaches from the West. This is a kind of carte blanche for further provocative actions that could jeopardize the situation in the Black and Azov Seas, as well as in the Kerch Strait, ”Polyansky said.
The Russian diplomat noted that the members of the UN Security Council did not want to focus on the incident in the Kerch Strait and instead began to accuse Russia of the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
Recall that last Sunday three units of the Ukrainian naval forces violated the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of the Kerch Strait. The hostile actions of the Ukrainian side forced the border service of the FSB of Russia to deploy patrol boats, which resulted in the loss of three units of the “fleet” by the Ukrainian side.
In response to the situation in the Kerch Strait, the Ukrainian authorities decided to impose martial law in certain regions of Ukraine along the border with Russia, as well as along the coast of the Black and Azov Seas for 30 days.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow would stop any attempts to challenge its sovereignty and security.
