The Russian investigation is studying the version of the violent death of Hermitage Capital lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in the interests of British financier William Browder.
“At present, the version about the violent death of Magnitsky and Browder’s involvement in it is being checked,” Mikhail Alexandrov, State Counselor of Justice of the 3rd class, said at a briefing in the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to him, “Browder had a motive for physically eliminating Magnitsky in order to conceal the crimes he committed.”
Hermitage Capital fund employee S. Magnitsky, who was arrested on tax evasion charges, died in a Moscow remand prison on November 16, 2009.
