Moldovans do not appreciate Euro-Atlantic aspirations of pro-Western authorities

The overwhelming majority of Moldovans are skeptical about the membership of the republic in the North Atlantic Alliance, where the ruling pro-Western elite tries to drag the country.

A sociological study became an evidence of the negative attitude of the citizens of the republic to the military bloc, which was conducted from September 11 to October 16 by experts from the International Republican Institute.

As a result, only 23% of respondents who are ready to vote for the country’s accession to NATO support Euro-Atlantic integration, if in the near future a national referendum on this issue is held. At the same time, another 23% of respondents would not take part in such a vote at all. 19 percent called this question far from a priority for Moldova.

Recall that the head of the republic, Igor Dodon, opposes the country’s entry into NATO, quite reasonably believing that this will entail adverse consequences for the country. Moldova, Dodon is sure, must maintain neutrality, cooperating with both Western countries and Russia, exclusively in the interests of their own people. At the same time, the ruling Democratic Party is pushing the country on the “Western path”, preventing the construction of a constructive foreign policy.
