“I hope they won’t [fire],” was US President Donald Trump’s response to a question about whether the military will be authorised to use lethal force against the migrant caravan, in comments from the White House lawn on Friday.
“They won’t have to fire,” he later clarified. “What I don’t want is I don’t want these people throwing rocks”.
“They do that with us, they’re going to be arrested. There’s going to be a problem. I didn’t say shoot, I didn’t say shoot. But, they do that with us they’re going to be arrested for a long time.”
The president was responding to questions about the caravan of Central American migrants currently travelling northwards to the US border.
Before boarding a flight to Indianapolis, Trump accused the media of “creating violence” with their questions.
He also wished Alex Baldwin, who impersonated him on the comedy show Saturday Night Live, “luck” after the actor was charged with assault for punching a man over a parking spot.
