Brazil: Protesters march in Sao Paulo against far-right president-elect Bolsonaro

Protesters took to the streets of Sao Paulo on Tuesday, to demonstrate against Brazil’s new far-right President-elect Jair Bolsonaro.

People marched along Paulista Avenue, one of the most important avenues in the Brazilian city, chanting “Not him” and carrying anti-Bolsonaro banners.

“I hope that the next four years we’ll stay united and not a drop of blood will be spilled,” said protester Mauricio Mendes.

The far-right politician was elected on Sunday after a controversial campaign, defeating leftist Workers’ Party candidate Fernando Haddad with 55.1 percent of the vote, to Haddad’s 44.9 percent.
