Blast hits area near FSB building in Northern Russian city of Arkhangelsk

The cause of the blast is yet unclear, the governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast is expected to make a statement later in the day.

A blast went off at the entrance of the office of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in the northwestern city of Arkhangelsk, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said on Wednesday.

“An explosion took place at the entrance of the FSB directorate building in Arkhangelsk. The causes are being looked into,” the committee said.

According to local media, the FSB building has been evacuated and police have cordoned off the area.

Igor Orlov, the governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast, plans to make a statement following an emergency meeting that is taking place in the city, a source in the regional emergency service told Sputnik.
