Peru: Number of Venezuelan migrants seeking refuge in Peru increases

Thousands of migrants from Venezuela reached the binational border care center in Zarumilla province, northwestern Peru, on Monday, seeking to enter the country.

The large number of people caused the collapse of services, while staff shortages slowed the admission process.

People waited long hours in the queues to get a passport stamp, after spending two days without food and sleeping on the floor.

Aid organisations such as the Red Cross, UNHCR and the UN provided food and water to women, children and elderly people.
