Welt: Sanctions led to a “paradoxical growth” of the Russian economy

The West is trying to put into effect as many sanctions as possible against Russia, and the indicators of the economic development of the Russian Federation are only going up. Such a positive trend in the economy of the Russian Federation was reported by the Die Welt.

As the outlet notes, in the third quarter, Russia received a surplus of the current account of the balance of payments in the amount of $ 26.4 billion. This corresponds to 6.5 percent of GDP, which is an absolute record. The central bank expects a surplus of $ 98 billion in 2018.

“These data were not to the taste of those who hoped that various economic sanctions would produce a quick and extremely negative effect on the Russian economy. But at least in the short term, everything happened just the opposite, ”the author notes.

At the same time, Welt experts emphasize that the current surplus could have been affected not only by the cheap ruble, but also by the completion of large investment projects (for example, the construction of the Crimean bridge).
