The border crossing from Velika Kladusa in northwest Bosnia-Herzegovina to Maljevac in Croatia remains closed on Thursday after groups of migrants on Wednesday attempted to force their way across the border into Croatian territory, clashing with police.
The situation was calm overnight Wednesday, following a fight between migrants that broke out in the evening after Bosnian police pushed back about 250 migrants, including women and children, who were gathered at the border crossing.
Bosnian police moved the migrants away from a cordoned-off group of Croatian police, at which migrants were throwing rocks and other objects.
Croatian police are following the situation with the assistance of a helicopter that is surveilling the area, and a water canon has been positioned next to the bridge that spans the border.
Meanwhile, Bosnian police sent back other migrants to Sarajevo after they reached Bihac.
It sent back 69 migrants by train and 57 migrants by bus. The migrants will be hosted in the new migrant reception centre that has been set up in the former Usivac barracks in Hadzici, located on the outskirts of the Bosnian capital.
