Spain: Spanish policemen injured as 80 migrants tried to escape from the detention center

At least 170 people deported from Spain are currently in a detention center in Madrid.

More than 80 people, mostly of Algerian origin, tried to escape from the Aluche prison in the capital of Spain on Saturday, radio station 24 Horas reports. According to Horas 24, at least 2 police officers were seriously injured and taken to hospital, and another 9 were slightly injured.

This is not the first time that an attempt to escape was carried out at the site, since 13 migrants managed to escape from it in August.

Earlier this summer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez decided to create a central operational team to deal with the ongoing immigration crisis. According to the latest figures from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Spain currently heads the list of Mediterranean countries in terms of the number of migrants arriving at sea, of which 23,048 people have arrived in the country this way from the beginning of the year to 1 August.
