Nikki Haley asked the UN Chief to develop an exit strategy on Kosovo’s UNMIK

The US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has resigned on October 9. The day she offered her resignation she wrote a letter to the UN Secretary General, asking the UN Mission in Kosovo – UNMIK to withdraw from the Republic of Kosovo, Gazeta Express reports.

The letter was sent on 9 October, the same day Niki Haley announced that she has offered her resignation as the US Ambassador to UN. The letter was addressed to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, Gazeta Express reports. In her letter Haley says the UNMIK’s mission in Kosovo was successful in managing a complex conflict such was the situation in the Republic of Kosovo.

However in her letter she argues that continuation of the UNMIK’s mission under current mandate will continue to hold hostage the UN’s valuable time and resources. Therefore she urged the UN Secretary General to exercise its authority and initiate a strategic review of UNMIK to develop an exit strategy from Kosovo.
