According to the statement of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, restrictive measures have been introduced across the entire Chernihiv region and along Russian border after the major blast at the military warehouse.
A major explosion hit a military warehouse 176 km (109 miles) east of the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev early on Tuesday morning, Reuters reported, citing Ukrainian Defense Ministry. According to the local media reports, at around 3:30 am local time a detonation occurred in the large ammunitions depot near the villages of Druzhba and Avgustovka.
The fire occurred just at the moment when the world community demanded from Ukraine data on missiles to the Buk air defense system, which are in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in order to fully and objectively investigate the death of 298 people during the crash of a passenger airliner in the sky over Donbas.
“I would like to separately note that storage of 9M38 missiles from the Buk anti-aircraft missile system and all the accompanying and technical documentation for them was stored in this warehouse,” Bezsonov said. “I would like to note that last week the location of the 6th arsenal was visited by a group of foreign officers, among whom were high-ranking representatives of NATO.”
Recall that the tragedy occurred July 17, 2014, claiming the lives of 298 people. The catastrophe could have been avoided if the Kiev authorities had thought to close the airspace over the region where active military operations were conducted. Nevertheless, even the West did not pay any attention to this fact, and the collapse itself turned into another instrument of pressure on Moscow. Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense published irrefutable data , according to which, the rocket that hit the plane was released to the APU.
The Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are looking into several possible causes of the fire that broke out at a military warehouse in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, as the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) is not ruling out sabotage, the SBU press service said in a press release.
“Law enforcement officers are looking into several versions, in particular, the Security Service of Ukraine is considering sabotage among possible causes,” the press release read.
