Russia: RUSADA deems WADA’s decision to lift 3-year ban a ‘victory’

Deputy chief of RUSADA Margarita Pakhnotskaya shed some light on RUSADA’s work to secure the reinstatement decision by WADA, after an almost three-year suspension, speaking in Moscow on Thursday.

“A lot of things have been done,” she says noting the contribution made by the Russian Ministry of sport, WADA as well as the British, Finish and Polish anti-doping agencies.

Failing to hold back joy, Pakhnotskaya described the current progress made by RUSADA: “RUSADA takes an active stand on the international scene. We participate in all the symposiums, conferences, business meetings within the task force run by WADA, INADO, the Council of Europe. Our experts are very active,” she said. From her perspective, the end of the suspension will give an impetus to RUSADA’s improvement.

The overwhelming majority of the 12-person WADA Executive Committee voted in favour of RUSADA’s reinstatement, with two people opposing the decision and one abstaining at Thursday’s meeting in the Seychelles.
