Protesters burnt US and Israeli flags as thousands flooded the streets of Karachi on Thursday, for the annual Shia Muslim Ashura commemoration.
The procession which took place under heavy security surveillance saw mourners marching from Nashtar Park to Hussainiya Iranian, carrying flags and banners.
Close to 3,000 security forces were dispatched to patrol the procession, with snipers placed on roofs and military officers marching alongside mourners; Karachi mobile service was also shut down for three days as a security measure.
