Bulgaria offers note of protest in connection to desecration of monument to Bulgarian Soldiers in Serbia

Bulgaria protested in connection with the desecration of the monument to Bulgarian soldiers in Serbia. On the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zakharieva, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Belgrade Radko Vlaicov expressed sharp protest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia in connection with the desecration of the monument to the tomb “Ice Wall” in the vicinity of the Serbian city of Nis, BNR reports.

The memorial “Ice Wall” is a mass grave of 2015 Bulgarian soldiers who died for the liberation of Yugoslavia in the final phase of the Second World War.

In a note of protest, he insists on the immediate elimination of the defeats inflicted on the monument, and on the identification of the perpetrators of desecration.

The Serbian side expressed regret at the desecration of the monument and stressed that this act of vandalism is unacceptable and in discord with excellent relations between the two countries.
