USA: ‘Big and tremendously wet’ – Trump on threat of Hurricane Florence

The United States’ east coast has been gearing up for category four Hurricane Florence with US President Donald Trump setting the safety of the American people as his “absolute highest priority” during a White House briefing in Washington DC on Tuesday.

“We are sparing no expense. We are totally prepared, we’re ready. We’re as ready as anybody has ever been,” said Trump.

Trump was briefed by Administrator of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Brock Long who urged citizens to “get out of the areas” if safety instructions advise them to do so.

“This has an opportunity of being a very devastating storm,” said Long, speaking of the category four hurricane.

A state of emergency has been declared for North and South Carolina and Virginia, which are in the direct path of the storm.
