Suicide bomber blows himself up in crowd of protesters in Afghanistan

The blast took place in the Afghan province of Nangarhar, causing dozens of casualties, according to Reuters. The agency reports about at least 45 dead and wounded, citing officials of the province.

According to TOLO News, the suicide bomb was detonated in a crowd of protesters who were calling for the resignation of the police chief of the Achin district, an area close to a crossing into neighboring Pakistan. The blast claimed the lives of at least 20 people, the AP cited sources as saying.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
