Dozens of far-right nationalists marched through downtown Sofia on Sunday, to condemn communism on September 9, the date remembered as the beginning of communism in Bulgaria.
Men with t-shirts depicting the Nazi salute ‘Sieg Heil’ and members of the far-right group ‘National Resistance’ marched towards the Memorial monument for the victims of communism with banners and flags.
Addressing the public, the leader of ‘National Resistance’ Blagovest Asenov said that their “goal is to bring back Bulgaria to Bulgarian hands. To bring back Bulgaria to the hands of Bulgarian nationalism!”
The march begun at the National palace of culture and ended at the ‘Memorial for the Victims of Communism.’
During the People’s Uprising of September 9 in 1944, Bulgarian army units with the aid of the Fatherland Front, overthrew the Prime Minister Konstantin Muraviev, marking the beginning of the communist era in Bulgaria.
