Germany: Thousands demonstrate in Berlin against right-wing violence

Thousands of people took part in a demonstration against right-wing violence in Berlin on Thursday, following a series of intense far-right, anti-migrant protests in Saxony.

According to police, the event drew an estimated 5000 participants.

After holding a rally at Hermannplatz, they marched towards Rathaus Neukoelln, chanting “There is no right to Nazi propaganda” and carrying banners with slogans like “Solidarity instead of hate campaign” or “When injustice becomes justice, resistance is needed.”

The demonstration was especially directed against recent right-wing protests in the city of Chemnitz where a leak in a manslaughter investigation case had denounced 2 migrant suspects, prompting a violent reaction from far-right groups.
